1. Preamble:
The Owner of the Plant, GULF TOTAL TRACTABLE POWER COMPANY incorporated under the laws of United Arab Emirates and the Emirates of Abu Dhabi with registered offices in the City of Abu Dhabi, Emirates of Abu Dhabi has decided to expend the overall desalination capacity in Al Taweelah by 52.8 MGPD with 1350MW increase in Power Supply.

The Client/Owner TOTAL TRACTABLE EMIRATES EPC COMPANY SA of PARIS, FRANCE is acting as main EPC contractor for the Taweelah A1 Independent Water & Power Project at Al Taweelah in the Abu Dhabi Emirate U.A.E. for the additional fourteen (14) complete MEDVC type new desalination units, upgrading of four (4) MSF type existing desalination units and their interconnection to the existing power and desalination plant to deliver excess capacity of 52.8MGPD desalinated water.

M/s SIDEM of Paris, France has been awarded by TOTAL TRACTABLE EMIRATES EPC COMPANY SA of PARIS, FRANCE a contract for the supply, construction, commissioning, handing over in commercial operation the sea water desalination plants.

Al Nasr Irrigation & Contracting Co. (L.L.C.) of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. being a major established contracting company in Abu Dhabi since 1973 and specialised in water works projects (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) has undertaken to perform all the Civil construction works and all the Electromechanical erection works for the 14 new & 4 upgrading existing desalination units and their interconnection to the existing power and desalination plant.

Al Nasr Irrigation & Contracting Co. (L.L.C.) has entered into a Contract with M/s SIDEM for the performance of the construction & erection works on a proper timely schedule, start up the desalination plant and final acceptance by the Owner in accordance to the specifications referred to in the Contract.

Works have included all supplies, equipment, tools, and machinery, material, consumable, services, documentation, personnel and other deemed necessary items for the execution of the contract works described henceforth including Staff & Labor accommodation camps near the project site (2 No.s) with a total capacity of 1,200 persons and an on-site laboratory facilities and services. All Major equipment, machinery & materials were free issued by M/s SIDEM.

Contract value for Civil & Electromechanical works is U.S. $ 20,000,000.00 and total construction period for the Civil construction works is from 18.12.2000 till 30.05.2002 and for the Electromechanical erection works is from 15.06.2001 till 25.08.2002 with total Civil 946,710 Man-Hours and Electromechanical 983,302 Man-Hours.

The project is currently under execution with Civil works 94% completed and on schedule and Electromechanical works at 56% and on schedule as of 8.04.2002.
2. Project Specifics:
Civil & Electro-Mechanical Works
a)The Sea Water Intake System:
12 Sea Water Intake Lines each consisting of two sea water intake screens with their associated backwash system, and sea water GRP 900/1200 line connecting the screens to the pumping station.
b)The Sea Water Pumping Station:
Pumping station built complete with finishing works to accommodate 12 New Sea Water Pumps and Motors arranged in three groups of four pumps. Each group is capable of supplying the necessary sea water to three desalination units.
c)The Pipe Racks & Main Piping Headers (sea water supply, brine reject, LP steam, MP steam, distillate, condensate, instrument and service air, chemicals):
Each system of desalination units is served by pipe-rack for the LP and MP Steam, the condensate, the distillate, the main chemical treatment and the instrument and service air headers. This pipe rack is also supporting the main power and instrument cables associated to the respective desalination units.
d)The Hypo-clorination Plant:
Complete structure and electromechanical works for transformer, rectifier, local control panel, electrolyser units, sea water filters each 120 m3/hr, hypo-chlorite solution storage tanks of 65m3 and hydrogen venting fans and complete interconnecting pipe-work.
d)The Hypo-clorination Plant:
Complete structure and electromechanical works for electrical panels, air blower units, generation unit with burner, reboiler and disorder, gas cooler, buffer vessel/trap, generation unit with heat exchangers, pumps, filters, flue gas washer units, absorber, soda storage vessel with soda dosing pump, CO2 compressor unit, purification plant, driers units, activated charcoal filter, refrigeration unit, condenser, compressor and CO2 condenser, CO2 storage tank 50m3, transfer pump, CO2 gas extraction unit, evaporators, working tank and dosing installation with complete interconnecting pipe-work, valves and instrumentation, cabling interlocks etc…
e)The centralised chemical plant:
Complete structures and electromechanical works for Antiscale tank, antifoam tank, sodium sulfite tank, trisoduim phosphate tank, antiscale pumps, antifoam pumps, sodium sulfite pumps, portable antiscale pumps, portable antifoam pumps and complete interconnecting pipe-work, valves, instrumentation, cabling, interlocks to each unit.
f)The new control building and its Electrical and Electronic Room (EER), existing control rooms in hypo-chlorination building, the CO2 building and the existing main control room (TCR building)
g)All piling works designed for purpose to support the structures.
h)Road paving, street lights & power cables, sewer lines with manholes, fire fighting service lines, water lines, existing services relocation works, steel platforms, raised floors, HVAC units, ladders, handrails and security fencing.
i)Testing and commissioning of installed services.
j)As Built drawings.
